Long a muse for artists, writers and intelligentsia, Greenwood Lake called to the iconic Hudson River School artist Jasper Cropsey. He spent many summers here painting the spectacular scenery. An expert on light and shadow and master of sunsets, Cropsey produced a number of Greenwood Lake paintings that are still held in high regard today. Most recently, a Jasper Cropsey Greenwood Lake original oil painting sold at Christie’s Auction House in New York for $422,500. Other of his Greenwood Lake paintings grace the walls of the Smithsonian and can be found in national museums as far as Spain.
We’ve had many artists, musicians and writers stay with us. The Waterstone Studio offers solitude, while the lakefront property opens a window into the world of Jasper Cropsey’s landscapes.
